James Rhoads obtained undergraduate degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Harvard College in 1991.
Then spent one year at Cambridge University in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, where obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics for completing Part III of the Mathematical Tripos.
Completed Ph.D. in Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University in 1997. Ph.D. supervisor was David Spergel. While at Princeton also wrote papers with J. Richard Gott, with Ed Turner, and with Bohdan Paczynski.
