Hilary V. Cane - Bio
Hilary V. Cane

Dr. Cane received her PhD in radio astronomy in 1978 from the University of Tasmania in Australia. She Came to GSFC in 1979 to join Bob Stone's group in the LEP to work on radio data from ISEE-3. These data provided evidence of a new class of radio bursts- called SA events and allowed the general characteristics of radio emission from interplanetary shocks to be defined. In 1984 Dr. Cane joined Tycho von Rosenvinge's group in the LHEA where she continued to work with solar and galactic particle observations from IMP 8. In 1988 her husband retired from the University of Maryland and they moved to Bruny Island, off the coast of Tasmania. Since then they have been commuting to Maryland each year to spend the northern summer months.
