Astrophysics: Interstellar Medium

The chemical evolution of the Milky Way. The nature, origin, and evolution of the dust generating the observed interstellar extinction, diffuse IR emission, scattered sunlight, elemental depletions, and X-ray haloes in the MW. Reprocessing of dust in the ISM accretion and coagulation.


Supernovae and Supernova Remnants

Astrophysics: Supernovae & SNRs

The formation of dust in supernovae and their circumstellar media. Analysis of dust formation,  heating, cooling, and grain destruction processes in supernova ejecta and the shocked interstellar medium. The evolution of supernovae light curves. Echoes from line and continuum emission from supernovae.

2006 - Peter Gruber Foundation Prize in Cosmology  as member of the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) Science Team

2006 - The Swedish National Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics to Drs. John Mather and George Smoot, for their discovery of the shape and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation made with the  COBE satellite. 
2006 - Special Act Award "For theoretical investigations of the contribution of primordial stars to the near-infrared background radiation."
