    Marlo Maddox currently serves as Assistant Director for The Heliophysics Science Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The Heliophysics Science Division provides scientific leadership to achieve NASA’s strategic science goals in solar, heliospheric, magnetospheric, and Sun-Solar System Connection physics. Mr. Maddox provides authoritative guidance in the planning, administration, and technical management of Division activities and is responsible for advising on, coordinating, monitoring, or performing work in several phases of technical and resources planning and programming. Mr. Maddox also develops, analyzes, and evaluates long-range plans for the Division.

    Marlo Maddox is an expert in software project management, data center management, distributed computing, parallel computing/Beowulf clusters, storage area networks, data modeling, and science data formats. Notwithstanding his technical expertise, Mr. Maddox was eager to make the transition into management.

    Prior to serving as Assistant Director of The Heliophysics Science Division, Mr. Maddox was Deputy Director of the Community Coordinated Modeling Center, overseeing all operational aspects of the CCMC while also leading the software development activities within the group. During his time at CCMC, Mr. Maddox successfully designed, developed, implemented, and delivered several transformational tools for the international scientific community including both the Kameleon Software Suite as well as the Integrated Space Weather Analysis (iSWA) System. The Kameleon Software Suite is a flexible data model and data format methodology currently in use throughout the space science community. The iSWA system solves the immense technical challenge of presenting actionable space weather information in a form that is both easily accessible and useful to NASA customers, general space weather stakeholders, and citizen scientists alike.

    A native of Baltimore, Mr. Maddox received his secondary and postsecondary education in the area earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Computer Science from Morgan State University and a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University.

    When he’s away from the Goddard Space Flight Center Campus, Mr. Maddox enjoys traveling with his wife Cynthia, son Marlo Jr., and daughter Maci.
