Dr. Hongbin Yu is a Research Physical Scientist with the Climate and Radiation Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Through his career, Dr. Yu has studied the dispersion, transport, and environmental impacts of air pollutants (both gases and aerosols) on scales ranging from urban complexes and land-sea transition zones to continents and globe. His recent research focuses on characterizing the long-range transport of mineral dust and pollution aerosol and assessing their roles in the Earth system through integrating satellite remote sensing observations and numerical models. He serves as a member of the MODIS and CALIPSO/CloudSat Science Teams.
Dr. Yu's publications cover a wide range of topics, including the aerosol intercontinental transport, aerosol data assimilation, aerosol interactions with radiation and clouds, impacts of aerosols on the land-atmosphere interactions and atmospheric boundary layer, tropospheric ozone chemistry, atmospheric dispersion modeling, and air pollution and boundary layer meteorology over complex terrains. His publication list and citation metrics can be found at ResearchID and GoogleScholar.
Dr. Yu received a PhD in atmospheric chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2000, and the M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in atmospheric physics from the Nanjing University in China in 1992 and 1989, respectively. He was faculty member for four years at the Nanjing University before pursuing the PhD in USA.
