Brief Bio
Dr. George Khazanov is a member of the Geospace Physics Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and holds an affiliation with The Catholic University of America. Prior to joining NASA in 2001, he was a tenured Full Professor of Physics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Geospace Physics Laboratory conducts experimental and theoretical research in support of NASA/GSFC scientific activities. Dr. Khazanov’s research focuses on understanding the physical processes that govern the Geospace plasma environment and its interactions with both natural and human-made bodies in space. Previously, Dr. Khazanov served as Dean of the College of Physics and Chair of the Theoretical Physics Department at Altai State University, Russia, and as Chief of the Ionospheric Plasma Physics Laboratory at Irkutsk State University, Russia. He is the author or co-author of six books, editor of three monographs, and has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers. He has supervised over 30 M.S. students, 15 Ph.D. students, and seven postdoctoral fellows.
