Brief Bio
Soelem Aafnan Bhuiyan is an Earth scientist specializing in the numerical simulation and remotely sensed data assimilation of Earth’s land-ocean-atmosphere system. His research spans from understanding land surface hydrology and improving storm surge forecasts to simulating upper atmospheric dynamics. Currently at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s (GSFC) GESTAR II Consortium, Soelem assimilates upper atmospheric satellite data into the NASA GMAO GEOS model using JEDI assimilation system to enhance its predictive capabilities, working in close collaboration with NASA’s Heliophysics Division. Prior to joining NASA, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) at Princeton University. An engineer by training, he holds a Ph.D. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from George Mason University.
