The employee’s research has focused on the measurement of precipitation from airborne and spacborne weather radars. From 1985 to 2000, he and counterparts from Japan led a series of airborne field campaigns using a dual-frequency radar/radiometer, built in Japan and modified in the U.S., to estimate parameters of the precipitation and surface. He has been a member of the TRMM science team since 1988 and is a member of the Precipitation Measurement Mission (PMM) science team. He developed three operational radar algorithms for TRMM and is currently leading the development of two operational radar algorithms for the dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) on the GPM satellite.
