Radiation Modeling at Martian Crustal Magnetic Fields
Magnetospheres
Magnetic fields are capable of deflecting charged particles off course. We're modeling how effective crustal magnetic fields are at deflecting charged particles (i.e., radiation in the form of Solar Energetic Particles and Galactic Cosmic Rays) away from their intended path and thereby shielding the surface from these harmful particles. This could indicate which regions of Mars are safe(r) for human exploration!
Downward Continuation of Crustal Magnetic Fields
Magnetospheres
We are using a method of iterative downward continuation on magnetic field data at spacecraft altitude to estimate the magnetic field at the surface.
