Dr. McKibben has a background in coastal and estuarine biological oceanography with an emphasis on satellite oceanography, harmful algal bloom ecology, and water quality. Currently she works in the Ocean Ecology Lab at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) as the PACE Mission Applications Lead. Dr. McKibben has previously conducted applied research at a California non-profit organization investigating linkages between eutrophication and harmful algal blooms in the San Francisco Bay with the goal of optimizing Bay nutrient management strategies. She has also worked two positions within the Applied Sciences office of the Earth Science Division at NASA GSFC: as a NASA Program Postdoctoral Fellow where she investigated approaches to derive phytoplankton community composition from hyperspectral information in the Chesapeake Bay, and later as a research scientist supporting research and development of remote sensing products for water quality applications.
