Brief Bio

Kim is a Senior Research Scientist with NASA Goddard's Hydrological Sciences Laboratory, leading collaborations and engagement efforts for the NASA Water Insight project, including the NLDAS-3 and NASA HydroGlobe water, land and agriculture integrated remote sensing and modeling systems. Kim facilitates the use of Earth observations for more sustainable agriculture, water resources and land management by connecting researchers with decision makers and data users. Kim also supports engagement and data product co-development with NOAA National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), UNL's National Drought Mitigation Center, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Microsoft, the Gates Foundation, and other public- and private-sector partners. Previously, Kim coordinated NASA Agriculture program's outreach and engagement efforts, including the agency's involvement in Commodity Classic '22 and '23, and she was lead planner for the "Space for Ag" farm tours across Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa for NASA Earth Science Division's Director. Kim served as Assistant Manager of the NASA Harvest Consortium, helping to coordinate over 30 projects related to crop monitoring and global food security. Kim has coordinated projects at the interface of environmental research, policy, and applications, from studying farmers’ adoption of renewable energy technologies to co-founding a company building recirculating aquaponics systems powered by landfill gas to coordinating a bi-state, bi-national resource management plan for the Lake Champlain watershed. She received her Masters in Hydrology and Watershed Management from the Yale School of the Environment and a BA in Geology from Oberlin College.
