Brief Bio


Dr. Jack Tarricone is a snow hydrologist and Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland, College Park, Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) and the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory. Before joining ESSIC and GSFC, he received his PhD in Hydrology from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2023. Dr. Tarricone’s research aims to improve our understanding of the water cycle in snow-dominated regions by integrating remote sensing, in situ measurements, and modeling. His recent work has advanced SAR-based methods for monitoring snow water equivalent (SWE) using both airborne and spaceborne platforms. His current projects, funded by NASA Terrestrial Hydrology Program, continue to work on remote sensing of seasonal snow. One project centers on L-band InSAR-based SWE retrievals using NISAR, while the other is a collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) focused on Ku- and X-band SWE retrievals. In addition to his research, Dr. Tarricone co-leads the NASA InSAR SWE Working Group, is a member of the Snow International (SINTER) Executive Committee, has participated in numerous field campaigns across the Western U.S. and Canada, and volunteers his time to teach snow science methods.
