Brief Bio

Edward Gonzales embarked on his journey in Pasadena, California, in 2001, joining NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) initially within the Office of Education (now the Office of STEM Engagement). There, he dedicated his efforts to uplifting underserved and underrepresented communities, while also contributing to the Office of Education and Public Outreach for the Science Mission Directorate, with a focus on Planetary Science.

In 2008, Edward was chosen for a detailee role at NASA Headquarters in the office of the Science Mission Directorate, where he focused on backend development and conducted staff training across NASA centers on educational metrics and evaluation. Returning to JPL in 2011, he took on co-management responsibilities for various programs under NASA's Minority Undergraduate Research Education Program (MUREP).

His expertise led to a fellowship opportunity in 2014-2015, where he returned to NASA HQ in the Office of STEM Engagement, subsequently resuming his role at JPL by the end of 2015. Edward's dedication and leadership were recognized in 2018 when he was promoted to Network and Diversity Facilitator at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. He served as a valued team member of the NASA Space Science Education Consortium and contributes to a council for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEIA).

In 2021, Edward assumed the role of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility lead for Heliophyics, further cementing his commitment to fostering inclusive environments. Beyond his professional endeavors, Edward shares his wealth of knowledge as a keynote speaker at numerous universities, community colleges, and high schools nationwide, as well as internationally. He serves as a panelist and moderator for various national STEM and Science conferences and organizations, advocating for diversity and inclusion in STEM fields globally. Recently, he was promoted to Program Manager for Culture, People and Equity.

Currently residing on the East Coast, Edward passionately mentors dozens of students, driven by his love for empowering others. Outside of work, he cherishes moments with his new wife, indulges in reading, travels avidly, is a sneakerhead and remains dedicated to lifelong learning.
