Steve Slinker - Bio
Dr. Steve Slinker

Dr. Slinker is a Research Physicist in the Space Physics Section in the Plasma Physics Division of the Naval Research Laboratory. Since joining the staff at NRL in 1985, he has worked mainly on numerical simulation of problems in plasma physics. Currently, he is using the Fedder/Lyon 3D MHD simulation code to study various aspects of the solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere interaction. He has used particle simulation to model the propagation of intense electron and ion beams through plasmas and neutral gases. He has developed codes for the study of the air chemistry initiated by particle beams. He has been involved in the design of several particle accelerators. From 1978-84, he was at JAYCOR in Alexandria, VA, where he studied beam physics and shock waves from artillery. From 1975-78, he was on the mathematics faculty of Texas A & M University. His research there was in functional analysis and quantum field theory. Dr. Slinker received the Ph.D. degree from Indiana University in 1975 and a B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1970.
