Brief Bio


Antonia Gambacorta is a Research Physical Scientist in the Climate and Radiation Laboratory at the Goddard Space Flight Center. She holds a Ph.D. (2008) and a M.S. (2005) in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Laurea Degree (2001, Summa cum Laude) in Physics from the Universita' degli Studi A. Moro, Bari, Italy. She is the recipient of the 2023 Robert H. Goddard Honor Award for Exceptional Achievement for Science and was awarded the 2023 NASA Goddard Technology Leadership Award.

A 2021 Instrument Incubator Proposal (IIP) awarded project to build the first of its kind hyperspectral microwave instrument for advanced atmospheric thermodynamic sounding from space.


A Combined Passive-Active, Multi-Sensor Approach to Earth’s Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) Sounding - Principal Investigator

A 2021 NASA ROSES funded research to combine Program of Record data from passive and active sensors to improve thermodynamic sounding skill of the Earth's Planetary Boundary Layer for climate and weather applications.


Developing the NOAA Next Generation Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor (HyMS): Instrument Concept and Demonstration of Benefits for the NOAA Mission - Principal Investigator
