Brief Bio

Dr. Jae N. Lee received a PhD in Marine and Atmospheric Science from Stony Brook University and a BS in Physics from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. The primary focus of her research activities has been in the application of remote sensing observations to climate studies, with particular emphasis on the sun-climate connections. She is currently working on TSIS (Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor) mission. Her current research interests include the observation of total and spectral solar irradiance, analysis of solar irradiance variability, and its impact on earth’s climate. She uses numerical models of the sun and earth’s atmosphere as well, to investigate solar activities, climate variability and their interconnections. Since her NASA NPP fellow years at JPL, she found interests in remote sensing of earth’s radiation to addressing the climate change from both the natural and anthropogenic effects, especially in the Arctic region.

Earth Science: Solar Radiation

My current research interests include observation of total and spectral solar irradiance, analysis of solar irradiance variability, and its impact on earth’s climate.  I use numerical models of the sun and earth’s atmosphere as well as remote sensing observations to investigate solar activities, climate variability and their interconnections. Besides this, I also find that remote sensing of cloud and aerosol is an important problem to addressing the climate change from both the natural and anthropogenic forcings.
