Brief Bio

Dr. Rauscher is an experimental astrophysicist. His research encompasses advanced astronomy instrumentation, extragalactic astronomy, cosmology, and the search for potentially habitable exoplanets. He currently serves as a Detector Scientist within the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Project at NASA Goddard, and as a member of the JWST Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) Science Team. Dr. Rauscher is active in detector development including near-infrared detector arrays since the mid-1980s, photon counting CCD detector technology, and most recently superconducting single photon detectors. He is interested in the application of mathematics and statistics to physical problems. This has led to the development of Improved Reference Sampling and Subtraction (IRS-square) for JWST NIRSpec and new algorithms for testing space flight hardware.
