    Dr. Teresa Nieves-Chinchilla joined NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), in May 2006 as a research fellow in the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP), and in May 2009 she joined The Catholic University of America (CUA) as a Research Associate. She received her Theoretical Physics degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1997, Spain) and her PhD by the Alcalá University (2004, Madrid/Spain). Her research efforts at GSFC are motivated to understand the nature of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their interactions with the solar wind, planets and the Earth. Her main contribution to the field has been providing a new perspective to the theoretical-analytical flux-rope model for magnetic structures embedded in the Interplanetary CMEs (ICMEs). The associated reconstruction technique allows characterizing these flux ropes and inferring the direction of the magnetic field before it arrives at the Earth. She has published in the refereed literature and contributed to conferences, workshops and international meetings. She has also given seminars and led scientific discussions at international institutions. She has been invited to conferences, served on panels and committees, edited scientific journals, and organized a number of national and international meeting sessions and conferences.

    One of her personal goals has been to inspire and motivate new generations of scientist. She is currently serving as Director of Education within the CEPHEUS Cooperative Agreement between the Catholic University of America and the Heliophysics Science Division at GSFC/NASA. She has been the advisor to graduate students (physics and engineering) and has served on graduate and PhD committees at Universidad Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM, Mexico), Universidad del Alcala de Henares (UAH, Spain), Leuvre University (Belgium), and The Catholic University of America (CUA).

    As part of her community service, Dr. Nieves-Chinchilla was co-founder and President (2016) of the organization of Spanish Scientists in the U.S. (ECUSA) to connect the scientific community of Spanish scientists in the USA, to create a platform to engage in an interdisciplinary dialog, and to disseminate the importance of science and technology to the society.
