Dr. Zhao is a scientist and senior scientific programmer/analyst in the Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory (code 619) at the NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. His research interests include the integration of ecological theory with satellite remote sensing and computer modeling for better understanding terrestrial ecosystem structure and function, from single plot to global scales. He is working towards improved measurement and monitoring of global carbon and water cycles through synergistic use of biophysical process models and satellite remote sensing. Dr. Zhao has extensive training and expertise in Hydrology, Ecology and Remote Sensing, with particular emphasis in understanding ecosystem dynamics and changes in response to natural and human-induced climate change and disturbances. He is an author of 60+ scientific publications, which have received 20,000+ citations in Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=UEBDjtQAAAAJ&hl=en). As a senior scientific programmer/analyst, Dr. Zhao provides software support (C/C++, Python, or Perl) to land data products of the NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS) project from the moderate resolution sensors onboard of polar-orbit satellites, especially from NASA’s Terra, Aqua, Suomi-NPP, and NOAA’s Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS).
