  • Brief Bio

Dr. Klenzing’s research interests include ionospheric electrodynamics, Ionosphere-Thermosphere coupling, and measurement techniques for thermal plasmas and winds. He completed his dissertation, “Effects of non-ideal biased grids on drifting particle distribution functions,” at the University of Texas at Dallas under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Earle in 2008. He moved to GSFC in 2009 as a NASA Postdoctoral Fellow and became a research astrophysicist in 2012.

    Current Projects

    petitSat

Dr. Klenzing is the PI of the Plasma Enhancements in The Ionosphere-Thermosphere Satellite (petitSat), a 6U CubeSat mission designed to examine the link between plasma density enhancements observed in the topside by satellites and waves such as MSTIDs observed by ground-based imagers. petitSat will carry two instruments: the Ion Neutral Mass Spectrometer (INMS) provided by GSFC (PI: Nick Paschalidis) and the Gridded Retarding Ion Drift Sensor (GRIDS) provided by Utah State University (PI: Ryan Davidson). petitSat is scheduled to be launched in late 2022.

    Space Precipitation Impacts

Dr. Klenzing serves as the Impacts subgroup lead for the Space Precipitation Impacts group at Goddard Space Flight Center.
