    Dr. Allan is an Associate Professor of Physics and currently a Senior Engineer for Sigma Space Corp., working as a contractor for NASA-GSFC in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Dynamics Laboratory.   He has successfully developed a Trace Gas sounding LIDAR instrument as a candidate instrument for the ASCENDS mission. and working on a wind lidar for Mars.  Dr.  Allan graduated from Herriot-Watt University in 1985 with a Ph.D. in Physics and now has over 100 scientific publications and 3 patents.  Specializing predominantly in nonlinear optics, semiconductor physics, remote sensing and laser characterization.  He has worked in government, commercial and academic research laboratories.  Dr. Allan returned to NASA after a brief foray in telecom at the turn of the millennium.
