Brief Bio

Emily Cassidy joined NASA's Earth Observatory as a science writer in 2022. Prior to that, Emily was a writer and editor for NASA’s Earth Science Data Systems Program.

Emily has worked in science communication for a number of organizations, including the California Academy of Sciences, the University of Maryland, and the World Resources Institute. Her passion for writing began while working in government affairs in Washington DC, when she discovered a lack of accessible information on climate and land use. Emily has since dedicated her career to synthesizing scientific information for the public.

Emily has a master’s in environmental science from the University of Minnesota and likes to geek out about remote sensing, conservation, and agriculture.

In 2021, Emily received a NASA Group Achievement Award for contributing to NASA/ESA/JAXA’s Earth Observation Dashboard. The dashboard was recognized by the International Astronautical Federation as an example of how remote sensing data can allow decision-makers, citizens, and the scientific community to easily access information that may be fundamental to protect our planet.

Outside of the office, you will find Emily hiking or practicing her curling skills. She lives with her husband and daughter in Maryland.
