    I am the Chief of the Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory whose staff members include 7 civil servants and 50 contractors focused on the development and operation of data systems that produce, archive and distribute data products from Earth observing satellites and the development, characterization and validation of fundamental earth science data products used to study global change.  I also manage two data systems that produce land, atmosphere and atmospheric chemistry products and manage a distributed active archve center (DAAC) at Goddard Space Flight Center.

    Current Projects

    MODIS Level 1 and Atmosphere DAAC

    I manage the MODIS Level 1 and Atmosphere DAAC which archives and distributes moderate-resolution satellite products from MODIS, VIIRS, MERIS and AVHRR.  Each day over 10TB of products from these instruments are downloaded by researchers either in their native format or after custom processing that transforms the products into a format more tailored to an indvidual user's requirements.

    MODAPS (MODIS Adaptive Processing System)

    I manage the MODAPS data system which produces standard sceince products and products for near real-time applications from data collected by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Sprectroradiometer (MODIS) insruments on EOS Terra and Aqua and the Visibile Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument on Suomi-NPP.

    MODIS Science Data Support Team (SDST)

    I manage the MODIS SDST which supports the MODIS Science Team by integrating and testing science software used to produce global products from the MODIS instrument.  and preparing the software to run in the MODAPS processing system.  The SDST is also responsible for:  the development and maintenance of the MODIS Level 1A and Geolocation software and software for some Level 2 (swath) and Level 3 (gridded) products; and for the quality assessment of MODIS Level 1, Land and Atmosphere products.

    Atmospheric Composition Processing System (ACPS)

    I manage the ACPS which produces global atmospheric chemistry products (primarily ozone products) for the OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument) on EOS Aura and the OMPS  (Ozone Mapping Profiler Suite)  instrument on Suomi-NPP.

    Manage the Terrestrial Information System Laboratory whose staff is comprised of 7 civil servants and 50 contractors.  Staff are involved in: 1)  developing, operating and enhancing data systems that produce, archive and distribute satellite data products from Earth Observing satelilite missions including EOS missions (Terra, Aqua and Aura), Suomi-NPP, AVHRR; 2)  developing fundamental earth science satellite data products, e.g. land surface reflectance; 3) assisting science team members in preparing research software for operational processing; 4) qualtiy assessment of global land and atmosphere products and scientific validation of satellite products.

    Head, Computing Systems Office

    Manage the Computing Systems Office with a staff of 4 civil servants and 10 contractors.  The office was responsible for the operation of the Laboratory for Terrestrial Physics computing facility that supported the analysis of remotely sensed data and support of desktop systems within the Laboratory.
