    Carey Noll is a Senior Computer Scientist in the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. She has over 30 years of experience at Goddard in the development of scientific data systems, database administration, applications programming, computer system management, and web development. She is the architect and manager of the Crustal Dynamics Data Information System, the CDDIS, providing continuous, long-term, public access to the data and product records required for interdisciplinary research to a global Earth Science community. This system is internationally recognized as the premier archive of space geodesy data, particularly, GNSS, laser ranging, VLBI, and DORIS data sets. Through the CDDIS, Ms. Noll has enabled interdisciplinary fields of research by innovative application of modern scientific archive principles and advanced information systems science to space geodetic data and products. She is a recognized authority and technical expert within the international community in the areas of space geodesy data management, database application design, and scientific data system implementation. She holds positions on the governing bodies and working groups of several International Association of Geodesy (IAG) services and its project the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS). Ms. Noll serves as a spokesperson for space geodesy data systems at international meetings where critical issues of data policy, future development, and current operations are negotiated between data centers, networks, and analysis centers. She has paved the way for expanding the reach of geodesy and the CDDIS to other Earth science communities through integration into the Earth Observing System Data Information System (EOSDIS).

    The GGOS Bureau of Networks and Observations works with the IAG Geometric Services (IVS, ILRS, IGS, and IDS) to advocate for the expansion and upgrade of space geodesy networks for the maintenance and improvement of the reference frame and other application, as well as for the integration with other techniques, including absolute gravity and sea level measurements from tide gauges. New sites are being established following the GGOS concept of “core” and co-location sites, and new technologies are being implemented to enhance performance in data yield as well as accuracy. The Bureau continues to meet with organizations to discuss possibilities, including partnership, for new and expanded participation.
    The Bureau provides the opportunity for representatives from the services to meet and share progress and plans, and to discuss issues of common interest. It also monitors the status and projects the evolution of the network based on information from the current and expected future participants.Of particular interest at the moment is the integration of gravity and tide gauge networks and the forthcoming establishment of the new absolute gravity reference system/frame.
    The Committees and Joint Working Groups play an essential role in the Bureau activity. The Standing Committee on Performance Simulations and Architectural Trade-off (PLATO) uses simulation and analysis techniques to project future network capability and to examine trade-off options. The Committee on Data and Information is working on a strategy for a GGOS metadata system on a near-term plan for data products and a more comprehensive long-term plan for an all-inclusive system. The Committee on Satellite Missions is working to enhance communication with the space missions, to advocate for missions that support GGOS goals and to enhance ground systems support. The IERS Working Group on Site Survey and Co-location (also participating in the Bureau) is working to enhance standardization in procedures, outreach and to encourage new survey groups to participate, and improve procedures to determine systems’ reference points and to detect technique specific systematic errors.
    A major task during the past year was the formulation of a network projection of stations and technologies over the next 5 and 10 years. This has been developed for use in simulations to estimate future network capability in addressing the reference frame and other requirements.
    We will review the progress over the past year including the network projection model.

    NASA CDDIS: Next Generation System

    The Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS) supports data archiving and distribution activities for the space geodesy and geodynamics community. The main objectives of the system are to make space geodesy and geodynamics related data and derived products available in a central archive, to maintain information about the archival of these data, to disseminate these data and information in a timely manner to a global scientific research community, and to provide user based tools for the exploration and use of the archive. As the techniques and data volume have increased, the CDDIS has evolved to offer a broad range of data ingest services, from data upload, quality control, documentation, metadata extraction, and ancillary information. As a major step taken to improve services, the CDDIS has transitioned to a new hardware system and implemented incremental upgrades to a new software system to meet these goals while increasing automation. This new system increases the ability of the CDDIS to consistently track errors and issues associated with data and derived product files uploaded to the system and to perform post-ingest checks on all files received for the archive. In addition, software to process new data sets and changes to existing data sets have been implemented to handle new formats and any issues identified during the ingest process. In this poster, we will discuss the CDDIS archive in general as well as review and contrast the system structures and quality control measures employed before and after the system upgrade. We will also present information about new data sets and changes to existing data and derived products archived at the CDDIS.
