Brief Bio

Dr. Xiaowen Li is a senior research scientist affiliated with Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research II (GESTARII) program at Morgan State University, Baltimore. She is currently serving as the Chief Scientist for GESTAR II Cooperative Agreement. Dr. Xiaowen Li received her B.S in Atmospheric Physics from Peking University, China, M.S. in Meteorology from Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, and Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago. She joined Mesoscale Atmospheric Processes Lab at NASA GSFC as a postdoc in 2002 and has been affiliated with the Lab since. Dr. Xiaowen Li’s research focuses on cloud microphysics and dynamics and their representations in numerical models, mesoscale and synoptic scale weather systems, aerosol-cloud-precipitation interactions and their climate impacts, air-sea interactions, and data mining with machine learning.

Dr. Xiaowen Li has served AMS Atmospheric Chemistry Committee for six years and organized the Symposium on Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions. She has served as session chairs and conveners for both national and international professional meetings. Dr. Li is an associate editor for AGU’s Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems. She has also served as the President of the Chinese American Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.
