Brief Bio

Dr. James J. Marshall is a Principal Systems Engineer/Scientist with INNOVIM providing science, engineering, and IT support services, primarily for Earth science data processing systems. His current primary task is with NOAA supporting the Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) on joint NOAA/NASA space weather missions. Prior to this, his major tasks at Goddard involved supporting all elements of ICESat-2's Science Computing Facility (~7.5 years including ~5 years as Task Lead), working on documenting the MODIS software algorithms that produce land data products (~3 years), leading work to document more fully the TOMS ozone retrieval algorithm (~4.5 years), and serving as the Support Team Lead for the NASA Earth Science Data Systems Software Reuse Working Group where he organized and led many of the working group's activities (~5.5 years). He also assisted with systems/software engineering for the Suomi NPP Science Data Segment (~5 years) and web site development for the GSFC Ozone and Air Quality Web site (~3 years). In addition, he has served as International Faculty on the International Institute of Interoperability Science, currently in formation, since fall 2008 (current status of this institute is unknown). His background in astronomy research includes a galaxy survey, modeling young stellar clusters, and observations of binary stars as tests of general relativity.
