The Near-Earth Object Workshops to Assess Reconnaissance for Planetary defense (NEO WARP) series focuses on the third goal of the United States National Preparedness Strategy and Action Plan for Near-Earth Object Hazards and Planetary Defense to "develop technologies for NEO reconnaissance, deflection, and disruption missions" and specifically includes actions aimed at technology development for rapid-response NEO reconnaissance missions.
In these workshops, we gather the community to discuss NEO rapid-response reconnaissance missions for planetary defense while focusing on three themes: (1) understand NEO reconnaissance requirements from relevant stakeholders; (2) identify technology gaps and potential concepts for NEO flyby reconnaissance performance; and (3) identify technology gaps and potential concepts for NEO rendezvous reconnaissance performance. The National Plan discusses both flyby and rendezvous planetary defense mission concepts, and hence both are a focus for these workshops.
The NEO WARP 3 Workshop will focus on theme #3 above, "identify technology gaps and potential concepts for NEO rendezvous reconnaissance performance." NEO WARP 3 will take place at the University of Arizona Center in Washington, D.C, on November 14-16, 2023. The meeting will run 2.5 days, ending around noon on November 16. Full group discussions will be hybrid; breakout sessions will be either in-person or virtual (NOT hybrid for breakout sessions).
Thanks!

Transportation
Airports
The Reagan (DCA) Airport is approximately 5 miles away from the conference location. It takes approximately 15 min to commute via the metro (starting from National Airport Metro Station).
The Dulles (IAD) Airport is approximately 37 miles away from the conference location. It takes approximately an hour to commute via the metro (starting from Dulles Airport Station).
The Baltimore (BWI) Airport is approximately 35 miles away from the conference location. There is no metro connection directly from BWI airport. The closest Metro stop is Greenbelt Metro Station, which is an approximate 30 min commute.
Parking/Rideshare
Parking can be difficult around the building as it is located in the middle of downtown. There several garages around the building, however, and each ranges on parking prices and discounts they offer. The best way to locate the most cost effective parking in a garage around the building is to utilize
ParkWhiz
.
This link should search for parking around the building address.
Ubers and other ride shares and taxis are very used to the area and easily can drop guests off in front of the building as well, or get guests from the space to the airport.
Metro
If you are traveling by Metro, guests can reach the building by getting off their train at either Metro Center or Federal Triangle Metro Stops. From Metro Center, exit towards 13th and G Sts. NW, then head south (downhill) toward Pennsylvania Avenue. We are located toward the bottom of the hill on Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th. Our building is attached to the National Theatre (National Theatre is directly to the left of our building's main door), on 13th we are across the street from the Warner Theatre, and the Reagan International Trade Building is on the opposite side of Freedom Plaza from us.
From Federal Triangle Metro Station, exit up the escalators and walk out into the main courtyard going towards the Children's Museum/Reagan International Trade Building. Once in the courtyard, near the Children's Museum, go right towards Pennsylvania Avenue. Cross both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue on the side closest to Freedom Plaza. Once across both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue our building will be to your left.
If you need help planning your metro trip, you can use the
DC Metro Trip Planner
to assist you. (See also the
metro map).
Hotels
We are situated amongst several hotels downtown. Down the block a short walk are both the Willard InterContinental Hotel as well as the J.W. Marriott. Additionally, nearby there is the Grand Hyatt Washington, Washington Marriott at Metro Center, Hotel Harrington, the Riggs Washington DC, Waldorf Astoria, and not too far from us is the Renaissance Downtown Washington DC. Please be sure to carefully check recent reviews of local hotels before making your reservation.
Food
Small snacks and coffee will be provided, but attendees are responsible for their own lunches.
There are a number of food options around the area. Some familiar fast food options include McDonald's, Subway, Panera Bread, and Starbucks.
If you are looking for local fare, District Taco, Old Ebbitt Grill, Astro Donuts & Fried Chicken, and Harry's are all within walking distance.
