The Framework for Assessing Changes To Sea-level (FACTS) is an open-source, modular platform designed to project global, regional, and extreme sea levels. Developed by researchers at Rutgers University, it empowers scientists to explore deep uncertainty in climate projections by allowing them to easily swap between simple and complex models for various sea-level contributors, such as ice sheets, land water storage, and ocean dynamics.

Recently, the framework's execution architecture was fully modernized to be faster, lighter, and more intuitive. It now utilizes a streamlined workflow engine that executes individual models within portable software containers. This system automatically handles complex scientific workflows—intelligently routing data, managing strict task dependencies, and running independent processes in parallel to save time. It also features built-in integration with high-performance computing environments, allowing users to seamlessly scale up massive simulations on advanced supercomputing clusters. Building on this modernized foundation, we are currently creating a framework to easily extend FACTS with new modules and capture detailed performance benchmarks.
