Biographical Summary for Mihir I. Desai Mihir Desai received his BSc. in Mathematics and Physics from the University College London, UK in 1991, and his PhD. in Physics from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 1996. Dr. Desai then joined the European Space Agency, Netherlands as a Research Fellow in the Space Science Department from 1996-1998. Dr. Desai joined the Space Physics Group at the University of Maryland in February 1998. Currently, he is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Physics Department at the University of Maryland. His research work has included studying the origin, acceleration, and transport of energetic particles in planetary magnetospheres, interplanetary space, and the solar atmosphere, understanding the dynamics of planetary magnetospheres and their interactions with the solar wind, and participating in the design, development, and calibration of novel space-borne energetic particle instrumentation. He has extensive experience in analyzing and interpreting in-situ energetic particle, solar wind plasma, and magnetic field data from the Ulysses, ACE, and Wind spacecraft, and is currently involved in the design and development of the Suprathermal Ion Telescope on the STEREO mission. His current research interests include analysis and interpretation of the isotopic, elemental, and charge state composition during solar energetic particle events, interplanetary shock events associated with coronal mass ejections, and corotating interaction regions from the ACE and Wind spacecraft.
