Conclusions

  • There is no long-term stable periodicity in flux variations of LMC X-3,

  • Times between minima are related by rational fractions,

  • Phase space orbits trace out a structure reminiscent of a nonlinear oscillator of low dimension.

  • ASM data well suited to non-linear data analysis techniques

    PCA Analysis

  • Intensity varies by a factor of nearly 200 from bright to faint,

  • PCA data at different source intensities and epochs sometimes show orbital phase modulation,

  • Orbit-to-orbit intensity variations appear to repeat at multiples of the orbital period,

  • Excited disk mode with suborbital rotation can explain this, as can beats between orbit and disk resonances.
