    Dr. Stavros Melachroinos, after having been awarded a research grant for merit, pursuit his doctoral research in the French laboratory of ''Centre National des Etudes Spatiales'', CNES and ''Groupe de Recherches de Géodésie Spatiale'', GRGS on ''High-Frequency Geodetic Positioning of Terrestrial and Maritime GNSS networks'' for the period 2004-2007. Before this period he worked in parallel with his Master and Bachelor studies for many years as a Surveyor Engineer in hydroelectric dam construction, the cadastre and as a GPS project manager in Greece and in France. He obtained his PhD degree by the end of 2007 in Astronomy and Astrophysics with specialty in Space Geodesy by the Observatoire de Paris. He then won a post-doctoral research contract by CNES to conduct and organize the research as the principal investigator of a GPS kinematic campaign in Antarctica on-board the German Icebreaker R/V Polarstern. After his post-doc he has worked for the French space industry in Thales Alenia Space as algorithms engineer for the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Ssystem (EGNOS) on behalf of ESA, until he's been offered a Chief scientist's research position at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) as a contractor. He is now working for SGT-inc on behalf of NASA's GSFC Geophysics, Geodynamics, and Space Geodesy (GGSG) support contract on GPS, precise orbit determination of Low Earth and Mean Earth orbiters, tide gauges, reference frames, tectonics and time variable gravity field. He holds 2 patents in navigation and antenna orientation problems, peer review publications on GPS, precise orbit determination, geocenter motion, mean sea level, crustal loading deformations and numerous geophysical abstracts in international conferences.

    Research Interests

    Geodesy

    Vertical land motions from GPS, loading deformations, global sea level from satellite altimetry and tide gauges, precise orbit determination of Low Earth Orbiters (LEOs), loading on geodetic stations, tide model evaluations, kinematic GPS positioning in remote areas, Intertial navigation systems and atittude determination.
