NASA scientists figure prominently in the distinguished group honored as Fellows of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in 2012. Dr. F. Michael Flasar, a planetary scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and Dr. Anthony D. Del Genio, a physical scientist at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), New York, have been named AGU Fellows. Dr. James Slavin, who recently moved from NASA Goddard to the University of Michigan, was also named a Fellow.

NASA/GSFC's Paul Newman, Randal Koster and Michael Hesse have been named fellows of tthe American Geophysical Union for their work in Earth and space science. Newman, an atmospheric physicist in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Dynamics Branch, was awarded the honor for his long-term contributions to atmospheric science. Hesse is the Chief of the Space Weather Laboratory and was elected for his long-term contribution to magnetospheric physics. Koster of the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office was nominated for long-term research in hydrological modeling.
