Brief Bio

Matthew G. Finley is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the University of Maryland and works in the Geospace Physics Lab at NASA GSFC. Finley received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa (2021) in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His doctoral research involved the utilization of image and signal processing techniques to develop novel data-driven compression algorithms for 3D range data. Following graduation, he began work as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Miles Research Group at the University of Iowa's Department of Physics and Astronomy. There, he served as the instrument lead for a hybrid search coil/fluxgate magnetometer (CHIMERA, launched in Nov. 2022 on the ACES-II sounding rockets) and developed interference mitigation techniques for in-situ magnetic field measurements from spacecraft such as Swarm-Echo and Parker Solar Probe. Matt can often be found covered in hair from his 100-lb Great Pyrenees (Bailey) and his 8-lb cat (Marvin).
