Morris Cohen is a PhD candidate studying under Umran Inan at Stanford University's Space, Telescope, and Radioscience Laboratory in the Electrical Engineering Department. He is the chief designer of the AWESOME system, part of a collaborative effort to develop VLF receivers for scientific research and educational outreach. Mr. Cohen has deployed his AWESOME receiver worldwide for research purposes, with many more installations planned. Currently, he is engaged in studies of terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs), a recently discovered phenomenon originating in the mesosphere that has been associated with lightning strikes. Mr. Cohen is a native of Baltimore.
