Nikolai Tsyganenko received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Geophysics at the University of St. Petersburg in 1970 and 1973, resp. From 1973 to 1992 - staff scientist at the Institute of Physics of the same University. Area of research: modeling the geomagnetic field, physics of the magnetospheric currents, dynamics of charged particles in the geospace. In 1992 came to the Laboratory of Extraterrestrial Physics to continue research on the data-based modeling of the magnetosphere, as an NRC fellow (1992-1994), Chief Scientist with Raytheon ITSS Corporation (1994-2001), Senior Research Scientist with USRA (2001 - present).
