Astrophysics Science Division Education & Public Outreach

The Astrophysics Science Division Education & Public Outreach Team

The E/PO Team within the Astrophysics Science Division consists of a group of E/PO specialists, scientists, web developers, graphic artists, and writers. We bring the science, technology, and discoveries of our Division to a variety of audiences through our formal education classroom materials, our Afterschool Universe and Girl Scout programs, and our outreach utilizing the latest media outlets.

Team Members

Jim Lochner - E/PO Lead for the Astrophysics Science Division. He keeps it running and keeps everyone happy. Keeps himself happy by listening to Car Talk.

Sara Mitchell - Our E/PO handy-woman. You name it, she's probably done it. Sara currently leads our podcasts, Twitter, blogs, etc. If it's new, she's on it.

Barb Mattson - One of the brains behind Cosmic Times. Now also the E/PO Lead for Suzaku and the up and coming Astro-H mission. She also has an affinity for Hello Kitty. Maybe there's a connection!

Sarah Eyermann - Handles our Girl Scout program and our Afterschool Universe program. She has closets full of activity supplies.

George Gliba - Helps sort through all those Ask an Astrophysicist questions for the archive. As an avid amateur astronomer, he's the person we go to for observational astronomy questions (when he's not spending his nights observing meteor showers). He also sends out all those CDs, posters and booklets.

Meredith Gibb - Our Division's web master extraordinaire. We used to have her full time, but she was so good the Division wanted her. But she still spends a couple months out of the year producing the Imagine DVD-ROM. She's still the happiest person we know.

Koji Mukai - Responsible for running the "Ask an Astrophysicist" service on the Imagine the Universe! site. Also keeps us on the straight and narrow when it comes to the science done by various missions. For fun, bicycling 50 miles is no sweat.

Amber Straughn - E/PO Lead scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope. She has a gift for writing grammatically correct run-on sentences.

Maggie Masetti - Web curator for the James Webb Space Telscope. Lots of interesting hobbies, including being in a band. But how many Beatles t-shirts does she own?

Faith Tucker - Our undergraduate intern during the summer of 2010. She gained a reputation as "The Crusher" from all those Afterschool Universe trainings. Nobody messes with Faith.

Frank Reddy - Our press officer. He can whip up a story in no time about the latest astronomy discovery.

Beth Barbier - Mostly now works with the Heliophysics E/PO group, but reports their goings on to us (and probably vice versa!). Beth has gotten to know many of the scientists in ASD, as she has written most of the Scientist Profiles for the Imagine site.

Britt Griswold (not pictured) - Graphic artist for the Cosmology Lab within the Division. He also does graphic work for us, when he's not playing bridge.
